About Amber

Licensed and Certified Speech-Language Pathologist

Hi! I’m Amber Bordoley (she/her), and I would love to be your Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP)! I am licensed in the state of Michigan and hold my Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). I am also a member of the Michigan Speech Language Hearing Association (MSHA).

I specialize in aphasia therapy for those who have experienced stroke or other brain injury. I also treat cognitive-communication difficulties associated with stroke, traumatic brain injury, or neurodegenerative disease. For pediatric clients, I provide play-based therapy for fluency, articulation, and language, and structured early-literacy therapy.  I am happy to provide voice therapy for clients of all ages following an evaluation by an ENT. I also apply my skills to enhance communication through accent modification services, with a focus on standard American English.

I bring my experience from various clinical settings to my private practice, including: hospital outpatient treatment of adults, hospital outpatient treatment of children 18 months to 17 years old, clinic-based intensive aphasia treatment, preschool readiness programs, small group literacy therapy, and others.

A little more about my background: I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Classics and Ancient Civilizations from the University of Michigan. My love for languages led me to Wayne State University, where I earned a Master’s degree in Linguistics. While in that program, I taught English as a foreign language to children and adults and fell in love with helping people communicate. So, after finishing my Linguistics degree I went back to Wayne State to complete my Master’s in Speech-Language Pathology.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our pets: Danger (a Havanese dog) and Dr. Muffins (a grey and white shorthair cat). I love traveling, gardening, reading, and trying any craft that I can do with my hands.
